Sustainability

Sustainability has become a catch all phrase in the modern era, but what does it truly mean? According to Edwards (2014) the heart of sustainability is the idea that we are a part of nature, that we will all benefit from taking a regenerative approach, and that now is the time for leadership and a purpose-driven approach. Rebecca is a PhD Candidate in Sustainability Education and believes that the wellbeing of the individual and community is innately integrated with the wellbeing of the earth. Therefore her work with youth and in community-building takes this approach; that we must create conditions for thriving, improve biodiversity, take leadership, and give back more than we receive.

We are here to awaken from the illusion of our separateness.

The teacher is of course an artist, but being an artist does not mean that he or she can make the profile, can shape the students. What the educator does in teaching is make it possible for the students to become themselves.

Storytelling

Storytelling is at the heart of Rebecca’s work. Stories help us understand our identity and affirm our values, giving us purpose and meaning. Rebecca uses story across her work as an educator, writer and photographer. Rebecca has shot for brands and marketing, as well as street fashion for global trend forecasting company, WGSN, but mostly she photographs people and places as they are. She has lived and worked in many countries around the world and uses visual and written storytelling. to unpack the complexities of the 21st century. In her research and as an artist, Rebecca believes in the power of creativity to garner attention, to interrupt and disrupt, to stir people awake.

We spill over into the world and the world spills over into us.
